SA Tourism Awards: Winners Announced!

Winners of the annual South Australian Tourism Awards have been awarded. The South Australian Tourism Awards Gala Dinner were held at the Adelaide Oval, on 04 November 2021. Tourism operators across our state were presented with awards in 32 categories.

Representatives of four finalists from the South Coast were present at the event yesterday with Beach Huts Middleton taking home the award for best 3.5-star accommodation and entering the Hall of Fame.

Beach Huts Middleton is a unique accommodation space which features 12 individually designed, colourful huts with great attention to detail. Their distinct style choice has a backdrop of an English countryside garden and each hut is named after the most famous beaches in Australia.

Hindmarsh Island based operator; Canoe the Coorong was a finalist in the Ecotourism category. The service allows visitors to explore the Coorong National Park’s spectacular views and the wildlife of the area. Kayaking being one of the most ecological forms of tourism assists in their conservation efforts to keep the Coorong pristine.

Finalist in the New Tourism Business category was Anita Robin who founded the cooking school, Foodbuilder in Goolwa in 2020.Foodbuilder offers cooking classes for individuals and groups and provides onsite cooking classes at select luxury holiday retreats. Anita is currently teaching cooking in Switzerland and was represented by her husband at the event.

SA Skydiving were finalists in the Adventure Tourism category. The business operates from Basham Beach in the Goolwa/Middleton and Lake Alexandrina (Langhorne Creek). Receiving many positive reviews over the years, they offer a range of skydiving experiences, lessons, and more.

Member for Finniss, David Basham, was in attendance and expressed his delight to see local businesses get the praise they deserve.

“As Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development, I get to experience regional South Australia regularly, and I know tourism operators have kicked goals over the last 12 months” he said.

“As South Australians we should hold our heads high, knowing we are the envy of the nation”

Mr. Basham congratulated all the owners and teams behind Beach Huts Middleton, Canoe the Coorong, Foodbuilder, and SA Skydiving, for their incredible achievements and efforts.

He also commended the Alexandrina Council for the support they provide to local tourism operators through the Alexandrina Business Hub in Goolwa.
